In a thrilling showdown in the Lithuanian TOPsport A League, Ghanaian winger Kwadwo Asamoah proved to be the hero for FK Panevezys, securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Suduva on Thursday evening.
Taking to the field from the start, Asamoah showcased his talent for 65 minutes, leaving a significant mark on the game at the Marijampolė Stadium.
Heading into the clash, FK Panevezys faced a tough challenge, with Suduva holding the historical advantage of 12 wins compared to FK Panevezys’ six, along with four draws. Despite Suduva enjoying more possession, FK Panevezys managed to carve out more scoring opportunities.
The home team asserted dominance in the first half, with Jeffrey Sarpong and Asamoah himself threatening Suduva’s goal. Matijs Remeikis came close from a corner, only to be denied by the goalkeeper. Asamoah continued to press, narrowly missing the target with another attempt before halftime.
FK Panevezys finally broke the deadlock in the 59th minute, capitalizing on a swift counter-attack. Ernesto Veliulis’ shot was parried by the Suduva goalkeeper, but Asamoah pounced on the rebound, coolly slotting the ball into the net to give his team the vital lead.
With this performance, Asamoah showcased his importance to FK Panevezys, having featured in eight games and netting one goal in the league this season.
