Dr. Randy Abbey, a member of the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Executive Council, has voiced concerns over Kwesi Appiah’s dual role as head coach of Sudan’s national team and his position on the GFA Executive Council.
Abbey referred to the situation as “untidy” and highlighted the potential conflict of interest, especially after Ghana and Sudan were drawn in the same group for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Appiah’s involvement with both Sudan and the GFA has sparked widespread calls for him to step down from his role within the association. In an interview with Michael Kofi Oduro on Metro TV, Dr. Abbey disclosed that Kwesi Appiah has not attended any Executive Council (ExCo) meetings since the draw between Ghana and Sudan, likely to avoid discussions about the upcoming matches.
“My friend Kwesi Appiah hasn’t attended any ExCo meetings since the draw. I’m sure he’s excusing himself because he knows issues of the game will be discussed. Well, his situation is an untidy one,” Abbey remarked.
Ghana is set to face Sudan in a crucial 2025 AFCON qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, October 11, before traveling to Libya for the return fixture at the Martyrs of February Stadium on Monday, October 14.
