Laryea Kingston has expressed strong belief that the Black Stars can progress beyond the group stage at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite concerns over injuries to key players.
The former Ghana international says his main hope is for the national team to advance to the next round when the tournament kicks off later this year in North America. Ghana has been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.
Kingston acknowledged that the growing injury list within the squad is worrying but maintained that the situation can improve if the affected players regain full fitness in time. He believes the technical team has a solid understanding of the squad and can still build a competitive side.
He noted that head coach Otto Addo has worked closely with the players over a long period and now enjoys better harmony within the team, which could work in Ghana’s favour during the tournament.
Several important players are currently sidelined, including Mohammed Salisu, Mohammed Kudus, Tariq Lamptey, Francis Abu, and Abdul Mumin, raising concerns ahead of the competition.
Ghana will begin their World Cup journey against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, then face England in Boston, before closing the group stage with a match against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
After early exits in the 2014 and 2022 World Cups, the Black Stars are eager to make a deeper run this time, with hopes high that improved teamwork and player fitness will lead to a better outcome on football’s biggest stage.
