Former Ghana international, Laryea Kingston, has encouraged local coaches to improve their knowledge of the modern game.
He believes that African players, especially those playing in Europe, are used to learning from top-level coaches who teach advanced football techniques.
Speaking on Joy Sports on April 14, 2025, Kingston said players trust and follow foreign coaches because of their high-level training. According to him, this is a clear message for homegrown coaches to seek more education and stay up to date with new tactics and ideas in football.
“Every player competing in Europe works with top-level coaches, so they understand modern football at a high level,” he said. “This should serve as a signal for homegrown coaches to further educate themselves.”
Kingston’s advice highlights the need for continuous learning in coaching. He believes that when local coaches improve, they can better connect with players and help raise the level of football in Ghana and across Africa.
