African players respect and follow foreign coaches, according to former Ghana international, Laryea Kingston. He believes this is because many African footballers, especially those in Europe, are trained by some of the best coaches in the world.

Speaking to Joy Sports on April 14, 2025, Kingston explained that players in Europe understand football at a very high level because of the quality of coaching they receive. He said this should encourage local coaches in Africa to learn more and improve their skills.

“Every player competing in Europe works with top-level coaches, so they understand modern football at a high level,” he noted. “This should serve as a signal for homegrown coaches to further educate themselves.”

Kingston believes that if local coaches upgrade their knowledge, they can gain the respect of players and help improve the quality of football on the continent. His message is clear: better coaching leads to better football.
