Let football people solve their own  problems – NPP’s Obiri Boahene speaks Black Stars AFCON debacle

The Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party- NP, Nana Obiri Boahene, has urged Ghanaians and politicians for that matter to allow the Ghana Football Association to find a lasting solution to the Black Stars 2021 Africa Cup of Nations failure.

Ghana disappointedly exited the tournament in Cameroon after a shocking 3-2 defeat to Comoros on Tuesday.

The result saw Ghana finish at the bottom of Group C after failing to win any of their three group matches.

Also, this is the first time since 2006 that the Black Stars have been eliminated from the AFCON in the group stages.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports in a state on Friday 21st January, 2022, directed the GFA to reconstitute the Black Stars management committee and also review coach Milovan Rajevac’s performance at the AFCON.

However, speaking on Kumasi-based Fox FM, Obiri Boahene said: “I do not politicize football,I am a leveled minded person and I look at issues before commenting. There is something fundamentally wrong with the organization of football in sub-Saharan Africa. In Spain, Germany, and Belgium you are not allowed to lead the national team if you are already affiliated to a club. Selection and composition of those who run football in Ghana and Africa is schemed,”

He added that: “We keep on repeating mistakes and we are all scared of saying the truth. You cannot put something on anything. You reap what you sow, we select three people to appoint a coach in three days and this is the results.

This is not a matter of NPP and NDC. All of us are not being bold, this is a matter meant for people who are bold and not for the timid souls. You cannot appoint a coach in three days and blame the coach later.” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Ghana will play rivals Nigeria in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Play-offs in March.

Ghana will first host Nigeria at the Baba Yara Stadium- Kumasi before flying to Nigeria later for the return leg of at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
