Ghanaian midfielder, Majeed Ashimeru, made a notable impact in the Group E match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola on Monday.
Although the RSC Anderlecht player didn’t start the game, he was brought in by head coach Chris Hughton in the 71st minute to replace midfielder Edmund Addo.
Ashimeru’s contribution was almost immediate, as he played a significant role in Osman Bukari’s equalizer just a minute later. Throughout the remainder of the match, the midfielder displayed exceptional passing skills and a strong understanding of the game, contributing to Ghana’s eventual 1-1 draw.
Ashimeru’s outstanding performance may have justified Asamoah Gyan’s grievances from last year when he expressed dissatisfaction over the player’s exclusion from the World Cup squad.
