Black Stars midfielder Majeed Ashimeru has set his sights on helping Anderlecht reach the semi-final of the UEFA Europa Conference League this season after taking a first-leg advantage.
Anderlecht defeated AZ Alkmaar in the first meeting of their quarterfinal fixture at home on Thursday night with the Ghanaian getting on the scoresheet.
Ashimeru, who netted his first goal in European competitions after 21 games, received a pass from countryman Francis Amuzu before beating the goalkeeper with a sweet curler.
Despite the 2-0 win, the tie is far from over and Ashimeru has revealed the team’s objective is to make the last four of the competition.
“We stay positive because we want to get to the semifinal but it’s one game at a time,” he said on 3FM.
“In football, you never know so we just have to go with our best because AZ are a really strong team and we the ball they are so good.”
The reverse leg of the encounter is set for next week.
