Ghanaian-born Belgian forward Jeremy Doku marked his presence in the new French Ligue 1 season by contributing to Stade Rennes’ triumph over FC Metz on Sunday.
The Belgium international of Ghanaian descent played a significant role, starting the match and remaining on the field for 85 minutes as Rennes secured a convincing 4-1 victory.
Doku, a coveted target for Manchester City, added his name to the scoresheet, propelling his team to a resounding win on their home ground.
Rennes initiated the scoring in the 20th minute, courtesy of Arnaud Kalimuendo-Muinga. However, Metz swiftly responded, leveling the score at 1-1 a minute later with a goal from Youssef Maziz.
The first half concluded with both teams tied at one goal each, setting the stage for an intense encounter at the Roazhon Park.
A stellar performance from Rennes in the second half propelled them to a comfortable victory, as they netted three more goals to secure the maximum three points.
Goals from Amine Gouiri, Jérémy Doku, and Ibrahim Salah’s brace contributed to Rennes’ commanding win against Metz.
French international Amine Gouiri reestablished Rennes’ lead in the 51st minute, followed by Doku adding the team’s third goal in the 67th minute.
Rennes extended their dominance as Moroccan international Ibrahim Salah scored two goals shortly before the final whistle, sealing a convincing 5-1 victory.
Meanwhile, Ghanaian midfielder Benjamin Tetteh, who recently joined Metz, made his debut for the club. He entered the match as a substitute in the 76th minute during their substantial defeat.
