Ghanaian midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has been handed his Manchester United debut by Erik Ten Hag against Charlton according to Manchestereveningnews.com
After seven consecutive wins in all competitions, United are hoping to book their place in the Carabao Cup semis with victory over their League One opponents. But there are not only short-term objectives on the radar, after the Dutchman included Mainoo and several other youngsters in his squad.
Mainoo, who operates principally as a central midfielder, represented Cheadle & Gatley junior football club before joining the club’s academy – and he has made stellar progress since joining Travis Binnion’s Under-18 squad last year, establishing himself as one of the Reds’ most exciting young talents.
The 17-year-old won the FA Youth Cup last season and he’s since been promoted to United’s Under-21 side. Mainoo, who was born in Stockport, has been a part of the United youth set-up since the age of nine and signed his first pro contract with the club back in May 2022.
