Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has been named among the 20 nominees for the prestigious Golden Boy award, an honor given to Europe’s most promising young football talents.
However, Mainoo’s joy has been dampened by a recent muscle injury, which will sideline him for several weeks.
Mainoo, who broke into the first team during the 2023/24 season, made 32 appearances for the Red Devils, contributing five goals and an assist. His impressive performances earned him a reputation as one of the club’s most exciting young players.
The Golden Boy award, founded in 2003 by Italian publication Tuttosport, celebrates the best under-21 footballer in Europe. Previous winners of the award include football legends Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé, making it one of the most sought-after accolades for rising stars.
Born in England to Ghanaian parents, Mainoo joins a shortlist that includes Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal and his Manchester United teammate Alejandro Garnacho. Despite his current injury, Mainoo’s potential remains evident, and fans eagerly anticipate his return to action as he continues his development at Old Trafford.
