When Martin Koopman needed inspiration, the 21-year-old Hamza Issah was the man to inspire the outspoken coach and the entire Phobia fraternity against Medeama.
Hearts of Oak needed the 3 points more than anything on Wednesday afternoon. Imagine Hearts of Oak putting up another horrendous show against Medeama.
A calamitous own goal was conceded by Medeama in the early stages of the game. Appiah Kubi had a horrible afternoon, his confidence was very questionable. A corner kick from Salifu Ibrahim was punched into his net which dismantled the confidence of the the team.
Hamzah Issah pressured Kofi Asmah and won the ball. He turned wonderfully and released a feracious shot leaving the goalkeeper with no chance to save it. 2-0 Hearts of Oak with just 17 minutes played.
Jonathan Sowah headed perfectly from Kamaradini Mamudu’s inch-perfect cross and pulled one back for Medeama.
An impoverished free kick was poorly executed by the Mauve and Yellow in the 33rd minute. Hearts of Oak took advantage and counter-attacked with 3 men against Kofi Asmah who could do nothing but watch Karikari release the ball to Salifu Ibrahim who unselfishly set up Hamza Issah for a simple tap-in.
3-1 after 34 minutes. It was all smiles for Martin Koopman as he breathed a huge sigh of relief. His boyish smile during the post-match interview was awesome.
When Hearts of Oak needed goals, 21-year-old Hamza Issah stepped up. 3 goals to his name, how far can he go?
