Ghana international Marvin Senaya is preparing for one of the biggest moments of his career after earning a place in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The versatile defender, who was born and raised in France to Ghanaian parents, has steadily built his reputation in European football and is now set to represent the Black Stars at his maiden World Cup.

His inclusion in Ghana’s squad is a reward for years of hard work and consistent performances at club level, as the Black Stars look to blend experience with emerging talent ahead of the global tournament.

Age and Early Life

Marvin Senaya was born on January 9, 2001, in Saint-Denis, France.

Growing up in the Paris suburbs, he developed a passion for football at a young age and progressed through the youth ranks of one of France’s most respected academies.

His technical ability, athleticism and versatility quickly distinguished him from his peers, helping him rise through the development system and earn opportunities in professional football.

Height and Playing Style

Senaya stands at approximately 1.79 metres (5 feet 10 inches).

Primarily a right-back, he is also capable of playing as a wing-back or on either side of defence. His game is built on speed, energy and tactical discipline, making him effective both defensively and in attacking transitions.

His key strengths include:

  • Pace and acceleration
  • Defensive awareness
  • One-on-one defending
  • Crossing ability
  • Positional flexibility
  • High work rate

These qualities have made him a valuable option for coaches seeking balance between attack and defence.

Nationality and Ghanaian Parents

Although born in France, Senaya is of Ghanaian descent through his parents.

His family roots trace back to Ghana, making him eligible to represent the Black Stars at international level. After progressing through French football, he chose to embrace his Ghanaian heritage and commit his international future to Ghana.

His decision has been welcomed by Ghanaian football supporters, who view him as part of the growing number of diaspora players strengthening the national team.

Club Career and Transfers

Development at Strasbourg

Senaya began his football journey in the academy of RC Strasbourg Alsace, where he developed into a promising defender.

His progression through the youth ranks earned him opportunities with the club’s senior side, allowing him to gain experience in one of Europe’s most competitive football environments.

Loan Move to Rodez

To gain regular first-team football, Senaya joined Rodez AF on loan.

The move proved beneficial, as he accumulated valuable playing time and showcased his defensive qualities against experienced opposition.

Return to Strasbourg

Following his loan spell, Senaya returned to Strasbourg with greater confidence and experience.

His performances demonstrated significant improvement in both his defensive responsibilities and attacking contributions from wide areas.

Move to Switzerland

As his career continued to develop, Senaya secured a transfer to FC Lausanne-Sport, where he has continued his growth as a professional footballer.

The move provided him with a fresh challenge and the opportunity to establish himself in another competitive European league.

International Career with Ghana

Senaya’s strong club performances attracted the attention of Ghana’s national team selectors.

After becoming eligible through his Ghanaian parents, he was invited into the Black Stars setup as part of efforts to strengthen the squad ahead of major international competitions.

His call-up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup represents a major milestone in his career.

Unlike several senior members of the squad who have previous World Cup experience, Senaya will be participating in his first World Cup tournament with Ghana. The competition offers him an opportunity to showcase his abilities on the biggest stage in world football.

Career Achievements

Among the key milestones in Senaya’s career are:

  • Progressing through the RC Strasbourg academy
  • Gaining first-team experience in French football
  • Completing a successful loan spell at Rodez AF
  • Securing a move to Swiss football
  • Earning international recognition with Ghana
  • Receiving selection for his first FIFA World Cup

Future Prospects

At 25 years old, Marvin Senaya is entering an important stage of his career. His combination of athleticism, versatility and international potential makes him one of the defenders to watch in the Black Stars squad.

As Ghana prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Senaya will be hoping to seize his opportunity and establish himself as a regular member of the national team. His journey from the streets of Saint-Denis to football’s biggest tournament is a story of perseverance, ambition and pride in his Ghanaian heritage.

For the Black Stars, his maiden World Cup appearance could mark the beginning of a long and successful international career.
