Asante Kotoko secured a late 1-1 draw against Karela United at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday in match week three of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League.
This result leaves the Porcupine Warriors without a win this season, and they currently occupy the second-to-last position in the league standings with two points.
Asante Kotoko fell behind after just nine minutes when their former player, Evans Adomako, capitalized on their sluggish defending on the day. Adomako took advantage of Henry Ansu’s defensive error, curling the ball past captain Ibrahim Danlad to give the visitors the lead.
The Porcupine Warriors came close to finding the equalizer late in the first half’s stoppage time after a well-orchestrated team play, but youngster Peter Amidu Acquah missed the target.
Karela United had an opportunity to double their lead from close range ten minutes into the second half but failed to convert.
In a dramatic turn of events, Baba Yahaya scored the equalizer for Asante Kotoko deep into stoppage time, rescuing a point and ending the game in a 1-1 draw.
Asante Kotoko will face Accra Lions as guests on Saturday, October 7, in match week three of the Ghana Premier League, while Karela United is set to host Accra Great Olympics at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 8.
