In the Ghana Premier League matchday 28, Great Olympics emerged victorious over Asante Kotoko SC, boosting their chances of avoiding relegation. The Wonder Club secured a 2-0 win against the defending champions at the Sogakope Park on Thursday afternoon.
Olympics coach, Bismark Kobi-Mensah, made two changes to the team that drew with Tamale City in the previous round, bringing in Michael Kweku Osei and Philip Nii Sackey for Abdul Bashiru and Abdul Razak Yussif.
On the other hand, Kotoko’s stop-gap coach, Abdulai Gazale, made only one change to the team that defeated Aduana Stars in their last game, with Mohammed Alhassan returning to the starting lineup.
The Dade Boys took the lead early on in the 8th minute through Michael Osei, who headed in a lofted cross from former Kotoko defender Christopher Nakai Nettey. Emmanuel Akesseh doubled their lead six minutes before halftime with his first-ever goal in the Ghanaian top-flight. Akesseh took advantage of a rebound from a close-range shot from Osei, which Kotoko goalkeeper Federick Asare failed to save.
The win moves Olympics out of the relegation zone to 14th position on the league table with 35 points, just one point above the bottom three teams.
Meanwhile, Kotoko remains eight points behind league leaders Aduana, and their chances of defending the league title are slowly fading away.
