CAF Champions League side Medeama SC secured a victory over lower-tier team Basake Holy Stars during the Round of 64 in the 2023-24 MTN FA Cup competition.
Adding a touch of international flair to the match, former Zimbabwean forward Kudakwashe Mahachi notched his inaugural competitive goal for Medeama SC on a Wednesday afternoon that would be etched in his memory.
The showdown unfolded at the Akoon Park in Tarkwa, where the Yellow and Mauves faced off against Basake Holy Stars in an exhilarating encounter. In the 34th minute, Mahachi, an experienced winger, seized the moment by finding the back of the net, securing the solitary goal that ensured Medeama’s progression to the next round.
Under the strategic guidance of Augustine Evans Adotey, Medeama underwent a tactical transformation with a few changes from their recent clash with Young Africans SC in the CAF Champions League. Notably, Black Stars defender Abdul Fatawu Hamidu made a notable return from injury, earning a starting role to face Holy Stars.
As the final whistle resonated at the Akoon Park, Medeama celebrated their victory, setting the stage for continued preparation for the upcoming challenge – the reverse fixture against Yanga in the CAF Champions League.
The team, undeterred and focused, gears up for the next chapter in Dar es Salaam, showcasing their determination to make strides in both local and continental competitions.
