Following their 2-0 win over Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, Medeama SC coach Evans Adotey spoke with StarTimes.
The victory propelled the Mauve and Yellow team to fourth place on the league table, just three points away from the top spot. It also ended their winless streak in their last ten away matches, thanks to Jonathan Sowah’s 15th-minute goal and Vincent Atinga’s goal in the second half.
Adotey attributed the win to their game plan, marking strategy, and setting of objectives. He explained that their main objective for the game was to claim maximum points, which they achieved.
He also mentioned that their tactics involved starting the game with two strikers, which enabled them to score a goal. After the break, they decided to sit back and counter, which also worked for his team.
After scoring the two goals, they brought on defensive-minded players to ensure they maintained the lead without conceding.
“I said it earlier. I told you in football is all about game plan, marking strategy, and about setting your objectives right. My main objective for this particular game was to claim the maximum points and that is what exactly happened. Talking about tactics, you know we came with a game plan and defended well. You saw we started playing two strikers that enabled us to score a goal. After recess we decided to sit back and come with a counter. It also worked for my team.
“We decided to bring on defensive minded players after scoring the two goals to come and make sure we maintain the lead without conceding,” he stated.
