Ghana Premier League outfit Medeama SC has announced the transfer of highly-rated defender Abdul Fatawu Hamidu to Egyptian club Ghazl El-Mahalla SC.
In a statement released on Thursday, the club confirmed that the left-back has sealed a move to join Ghazl El-Mahalla SC ahead of the new season. The highly-rated defender is expected to play a huge role for the Egyptian outfit in the 2024/25 football season.
“We are pleased to announce the transfer of Fatawu Hamidu to the Egyptian side, Ghazl El-Mahalla SC. We wish him the best in his new journey and thank him for his contributions to our club,” the club wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Zamalek were in contention to sign Fatawu Hamidu but their coach reportedly rejected a move for the Ghanaian defender, giving Ghazl El Mahalla the advantage to secure his signature.
Hamidu’s impressive performance with Medeama earned him a call up into the senior national soccer team, the Black Stars in September 2023. He made his debut for the national team against Liberia in an international friendly game in September, where Ghana triumphed 3-1 over their opponent.
The highly-rated defender was a standout for Medeama when they clinched their first-ever Ghana Premier League title during the 2022/23 football season.
