Medeama SC’s Abdul Fatawu Hamidu and Jonathan Sowah have earned spots in the Ghana squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, as announced by Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton.
The squad is set to face Madagascar and Comoros in consecutive matches, starting with the clash against Madagascar on Friday, November 17, 2023, at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi. Four days later, on November 21, 2023, the Black Stars will take on Comoros at the Stade Malouzini in Moroni.
The Medeama duo received their debut call-ups to the Ghana senior team in August when they played against Central African Republic in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Subsequently, they made their international debuts in a friendly against Liberia, where Hamidu impressed as a starting left-back, and Sowah, coming on as a substitute, contributed to the team’s 3-1 victory at the Accra Sports Stadium.
While Hamidu was previously invited for the international friendlies against Mexico and the USA during the last break, Sowah did not make the squad.
Both players have been pivotal for the Ghanaian champions, playing a significant role in their qualification for the CAF Champions League group phase.
