Dr. Tony Aubynn, president of Medeama SC, has clarified the club’s stance amid interest from African powerhouses Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns in forward Jonathan Sowah.
Despite Sowah attracting attention with his stellar performances for the Mauve and Yellow, particularly in securing Medeama’s historic Ghana Premier League title and making an impact in the CAF Champions League, the club is currently unwilling to part ways with him.
Dr. Aubynn emphasized that, for now, they are not entertaining the idea of transferring the player but hinted at considering it in the future.
“At the moment, we do not want the player transferred to any club, but perhaps in the future, we will think about it,” stated Dr. Aubynn in an interview with OnTime Sport.
He highlighted Sowah’s significant contribution to the team, emphasizing that there is no specific price tag for his potential sale.
“He represents a powerful force for the team and there is no specific price for selling him.
While confirming interest from various clubs, including Egyptian and European ones, Dr. Aubynn clarified that there are no ongoing negotiations between Medeama and Al Ahly regarding Jonathan Sowah.
“There are no negotiations between Medeama and Al Ahly regarding Jonathan Sowah, and we have several clubs interested in the player, including Egyptian and European clubs.”
The club, coming off a 3-0 defeat in their Group D opener against Al Ahly in Egypt, is gearing up to host Algerian giants CD Belouizdad in Kumasi on Friday.
