The Brands manager for Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC Mr. Ebenezer Aidoo has confirmed that the team will hosts it Champions League games at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

According to him, CAF has approved the Baba Yara Sports Stadium as fit to host international games in the upcoming CAF Champions League group stage competition.

Mr Aidoo confirmed that the Yellow and Mauve will now play their home games at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

“The first option was to play at T&A Park because we were hoping that renovation and work would be completed on time but it did not happen,” he told Asempa FM.

“The second option was to play the Cape Coast Stadium because that is where we played all our preliminary games but CAF had to come and inspect the stadium because the games are category four games for CAF because they earn a lot of money from there so we informed National Sports Authority and Sports Ministry but we had to opt to play at the Baba Yara Stadium because time was running out for us,” he added.

Medeama began their champions League journey with a 1-0 win over Nigerian side Remo Stars and qualified on penalty shootouts after losing by the same goal margin in the return leg.

The Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC have been paired in the same CAF Champions League group with Al Ahly, Young Africans and CR Belouizdad.

The Mauve and Yellow qualified for the group stage of the Champions League after beating Remo Stars and Horoya AC in the preliminary rounds.

Medeama have now been handed another tough hurdle in Group D and will have to better the aforementioned teams from Egypt, Tanzania and Algeria to reach the knockout stage of the competition.
