Ghanaian winger Christian Atsu believes that Messi does not need to win the World Cup trophy to solidify his status as the greatest footballer of all time.
The Argentine has led his team to the World Cup final and hope to win his first World Cup trophy after narrowly missing out in 2014.
For years on end, the debate for the best player of all time has been between Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. With the trophy in sight, Messi will look to end those debates with the win.
But Atsu thinks he’s already the greatest footballer of all time.
“He doesn’t need the World Cup to prove he is the GOAT. Messi,” the former Newcastle United winger tweeted.
These days Atsu plies his trade in Turkey for Hatayaspor. He was named the Ghanaian Messi during his youth.
