Ex-Black Stars midfielder Michael Essien has explained the decision behind his delay to take up any coaching job despite acquiring his UEFA coaching license.
Since quitting football, the former Chelsea player has been working on getting his coaching licence; most recently, he obtained his UEFA A and UEFA Elite Youth coaching licences. In addition, Essien is working towards obtaining his UEFA Pro licence, which will enable him to coach first-team clubs.
There were some rumours the 40-year-old would be interested in taking the Black Stars coaching job at some point but Essien recently made mentioned that he’s ‘not interested’ in that job.
In an interview with DW, the ex-Chelsea star details why he feels he is not ready yet.
“People think that because you’ve been a professional player at the highest levels, it is easy to get into coaching, but it’s totally different,” he said.
“That’s why I have managed to take my time and take it day by day.”
