Spain-based midfielder Baba Iddrisu will not be available for the Black Stars in the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying matches. Iddrisu, who plays for UD Almeria, has been left out of Otto Addo’s 26-man squad due to an injury setback.
Coach Addo announced the squad on Wednesday morning, including notable players like Jordan Ayew, Mohammed Kudus, Ernest Nuamah, Alexander Djiku, Mohammed Salisu, and Tariq Lamptey. In a surprising move, Andre Ayew, who has been performing well for French Ligue 1 club Le Havre, has been omitted from the team.
With Andre Ayew absent, Arsenal star Thomas Partey will return to the team and take on the role of captain. The Black Stars will commence their training camp on Thursday at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon.
Ghana’s first qualifier match will be against Mali on June 6 at Stade 26 Mars in Bamako. They will then host the Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Stadium on June 10.
The Black Stars aim to secure maximum points in both games after a mixed start to the qualifiers last year. The team began with a 1-0 victory over Madagascar but then suffered a narrow defeat to Comoros, leaving them in 4th place in Group I as they head into the third and fourth matches.
