The ministry of Youth and Sports through a press release on its Facebook page has attacked the professionalism of the multimedia group (myjoyonline) due to a false reportage of Ghana hosting the Commonwealth games.
The press release sought to question the credibility and professional of myjoyonline after a publication with the headline ” Ghana in talks to host the 2026 Commonwealth games: Sports Minister”.
The press release explained that the visit of the Commonwealth president to Ghana was to showcase our state-of-the-art facilities for the African games and to host monumental games in the future without significant additional expenditure.
DISREGARD THE MALICIOUS PUBLICATION BY MULTIMEDIA
It has come to our attention that Multimedia’s online news portal, myjoyonline.com, has published a false article with the headline “Ghana in talks to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games: Sports Minister,” authored by Victor Atsu Tamakloe. We wish to clarify that this publication is not only inaccurate but also malicious in its intent to spread falsehood and cause disaffection for the Hon. Minister of Youth and Sports.
During an interview with GhOne’s Benjamin Yamoah and Monica Bukari, the Minister clarified that the visit of the Commonwealth President to Ghana provided an opportunity to showcase our state-of-the-art facilities, among other discussions. At no point did the minister suggest that Ghana was in talks to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Furthermore, the Minister emphasized that Ghana’s provision of state-of-the-art facilities for the African Games indicates the country’s readiness to host monumental events like the Commonwealth Games without significant additional expenditure. However, he did not imply that Ghana has submitted a bid or held discussions to host the Commonwealth Games.
Such irresponsible journalism undermines the integrity of the media and erodes public trust and confidence. We call on myjoyonline.com to retract the false publication and issue a public apology to the hon. minister and the Ministry of Youth and Sports for spreading misinformation.
The Minister remains resolute and will continue to undertake his duties with absolute commitment and transparency.
Attached is an excerpt of the interview where the Minister addressed the question about the Commonwealth Games.
Signed:
Jamaludeen A. Abdullah
Executive Assistant to the Minister
The clarity of the press release brings a finality to the widespread notion that Ghana was prepared to host the next Commonwealth games which is one of the most Prestigeous competitions in the world.
