Mohammed Kudus’ £85 million release clause creates hurdle for potential suitors

West Ham star Mohammed Kudus is unlikely to leave the London Stadium next summer, largely due to his hefty £85 million release clause, according to former Hammers scout Mick Brown.

Despite drawing interest from top Premier League clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea, Brown believes the significant release fee may deter potential buyers.

“I’ve seen an £85 million release clause mentioned, and I’ve heard that could put some of the interested clubs off a move,” Brown shared with Football Insider.

He explained that while some clubs have the financial means to meet the fee, they may not have a need for a player in Kudus’ position, making a transfer less likely.

“Liverpool won’t be able to afford it; where would he fit in the Arsenal team? Where does he go in the Chelsea team?” Brown added, highlighting the difficulties in securing a move to one of these top sides given their already competitive squads.

Kudus, who joined West Ham from Ajax in the summer of 2023, enjoyed a strong debut season, scoring 13 goals across all competitions. However, his second season has been more challenging, with his first goal of the campaign only coming after a seven-game drought, netting against Ipswich over the weekend.

As he works to rediscover his form, questions about his future at West Ham continue to generate speculation.
