Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Glenn Hoddle has tipped Mohammed Kudus to become a major asset for Spurs, provided he improves his awareness when dribbling.

The Ghana international impressed during Tottenham’s Super Cup clash against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday at the Bluenergy Stadium. Operating as a constant threat to PSG’s defence, Kudus created a match-high three chances and completed the most dribbles (two) before being substituted in the 79th minute.

Despite Spurs racing to a 2-0 lead, PSG fought back to level the match and eventually triumphed 4-3 on penalties to lift the trophy.

Speaking on TNT Sports, Hoddle praised Kudus’ raw ability but emphasised the need for refinement.

“He’s got such good talent, such quick feet, and you can see his qualities there. The added ingredient for him as a player is consistency,” Hoddle said.

“A lot of my West Ham friends have said to me, ‘Thank you for taking him, Glenn.’ The first year, I thought he was excellent; the second year, they told me he didn’t do so well. But he’s got a lot of potential.

“Sometimes I look at dribblers and like what they do, but can they dribble and play with their head up? That’s the key for me. That’s the next progression for him. If he can do that, he could be a real asset for Tottenham.”

Kudus, 25, joined Spurs from West Ham United this summer in a €63.8 million deal after two seasons at the London Stadium. He is expected to be in action when Tottenham open their Premier League campaign against Burnley this weekend.
