Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu has made a long-awaited return to competitive football after spending eight months on the sidelines with an ACL injury.
Salisu featured for AS Monaco in their Ligue 1 victory over Lens on Friday night, marking his first appearance in the French top flight since January.
The return represents an important milestone for the 27-year-old, who has endured a lengthy rehabilitation period after suffering the serious knee injury.
Salisu had been unavailable for Monaco since the setback, forcing him to spend several months away from competitive action as he underwent treatment and worked through his recovery programme.
His return against Lens now provides a major boost to both the player and the club as Monaco continue their Ligue 1 campaign.
The Ghana international was understandably pleased to be back on the pitch after such a prolonged absence, with the comeback bringing an end to one of the most difficult injury spells of his career.
Salisu’s return is also significant for Ghana, as the Black Stars continue to monitor the fitness and availability of key players ahead of their upcoming international assignments.
Having finally returned to action, the defender will now be looking to regain his rhythm, match fitness and consistency as he gradually works his way back into Monaco’s plans.
The long-term objective will be for Salisu to remain healthy and build a sustained run of appearances after overcoming the ACL injury.
His comeback against Lens therefore represents more than just another appearance for Monaco—it is the first step in his return to regular football after eight challenging months on the sidelines.
