Ghanaian forward Mohammed Sofo made a decisive impact off the bench, scoring his first goal of the season to help New York Red Bulls secure an entertaining 4-2 victory over FC Cincinnati.
The 21-year-old, introduced with just ten minutes remaining, capped his cameo with a composed finish in stoppage time after linking up with fellow Ghanaian Ronald Donkor. Sofo showed great composure inside the box, executing a clever step-over before firing home with his left foot to seal the win at the Sports Illustrated Stadium.
Having started the season on the sidelines due to injury, Sofo was making only his third appearance of the campaign. His goal marked a significant personal milestone and underlined his potential impact for the Red Bulls going forward.
Head coach Michael Bradley introduced the youngster late in the game, replacing Jorge Ravulcaba—and the decision paid off in style as Sofo delivered a clinical finish to wrap up the contest.
The match itself was a thrilling encounter from the outset. Julian Hall gave the hosts an early lead in the 15th minute, but Cincinnati responded quickly through Pavel Bucha just three minutes later.
Captain Emil Forsberg restored the Red Bulls’ advantage shortly after halftime, before an own goal by Kyle Smith extended the lead.
Smith, however, redeemed himself by helping Cincinnati pull one back, setting up a tense finish before Sofo’s late strike put the result beyond doubt.
