Moroccan footballer Anas Zaroury has signed a new five-year deal with Premier League team Burnley FC, ahead of the start of the 2023-24 football season.
The club announced the news on Friday, specifying that the new contract was signed at Turf Moor, the club’s home stadium.
“First of all, I would like to say since I came here, I got confidence from everyone at the Club and it directly felt like home. Now to extend my contract is really positive and I’m just really pleased,” Zaroury commented on the signing.
He expressed his satisfaction with last season with the club, as he was a key part in the team’s stellar performance to win the EFL Championship (England’s second-division league) and secure promotion to the Premier League.
The young Moroccan scored 11 goals in 39 appearances to help the Clarets return to the top-flight.
“I’m really excited for this season ahead; every game is massive for us,” he added. “I’ve really missed the fans at Turf Moor and I will see them all in one week.”
In addition to securing promotion with the Clarets, Zaroury, 22, was also part of the Morocco squad that reached the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup.
Burnley will start their Premier League campaign on August 11, facing a formidable opponent in defending champions and treble winners Manchester City.
