Ghana’s planned international friendly against Morocco has been cancelled, denying the Black Stars a crucial opportunity to prepare ahead of their upcoming assignments.
The two African football giants were scheduled to meet on Sunday, October 4, at the Grand Stade de Tanger as part of their preparations during the international break. The fixture had earlier been confirmed by both the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
However, the match will no longer go ahead after the cancellation was confirmed, with the Ghanaian federation informing their Moroccan counterparts of the decision. GFA Communications Director Henry Asante confirmed that the encounter had been called off but did not disclose the official reason behind the move.
Reports from Moroccan media suggested that internal issues involving player financial entitlements may have affected Ghana’s preparations, with some players reportedly unwilling to travel. The GFA has not officially confirmed those reports.
The cancellation comes at a difficult moment for the Black Stars, who are seeking to recover from a poor start to their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign following defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia.
For coach Carlos Queiroz, the friendly was expected to provide a valuable opportunity to assess his squad against one of Africa’s strongest national teams before Ghana’s next competitive fixtures.
Morocco, meanwhile, are now looking for alternative opposition to maintain their planned schedule during the international window.
Ghana will now have to wait for confirmation of their next friendly fixture as Queiroz continues preparations for the November AFCON qualifiers.
