Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, a former Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North Constituency, has made startling claims suggesting that certain players within the Black Stars desire the removal of team captain Andre Ayew.
Agyemang asserted on Kessben FM that his interactions with several current players revealed a consensus that Ayew’s presence does not positively impact the team’s performance. He alleged that these players believe removing Ayew from the squad would lead to significant improvements.
“Some of the old players especially are negative influence and must be sacked. Their presence in the team is not good for team cohesion and fraternity. Dede Ayew should be removed from the Black Stars. Let’s take him out and introduce some new faces. If we do that, you will see a massive improvement in the team,” Agyemang stated.
“He no longer wields improvement on the team and his presence brings a lot of issues. Most of the players feel he doesn’t help with their cohesion so they want him gone. I talk to a lot of the players,” he said.
Furthermore, Agyemang emphasized the need for the Ghana Football Association to appoint a coach well-versed in Ghanaian football and African football dynamics. He stressed the importance of a coach who understands the unique aspects of Ghanaian and African football and can adapt accordingly.
“We should recruit a technical person who knows Ghana and has good knowledge of the team. He must be very technical and has a fair idea of the behavior of players. Some of the players must also be sacked. We should take them out because some of the players complain about certain players,” Agyemang added.
The revelations come as the GFA seeks to appoint the next coach for the Black Stars following the dismissal of Chris Hughton post-AFCON. The Black Stars’ disappointing performance in the tournament, which saw them exit at the group stage, has sparked discussions about potential changes within the team’s setup.
