Hooliganism has become a major cankerworm that is eating deeper into the fabric of the Ghanaian football.
There have been instances where some Referees as well as travelling fans of a club together with their teams have been subjected to severe beatings and maltreatment at match venues in the various leagues centres across the country.
A recent incident of this is where Referee Selorm Yao Bless who officiated Division One league match between Tema Youth and Liberty Professionals was assaulted.
Reacting to this development, the Board Chairman of Legon Cities football club Mr. Fred Agbenyo in an interview with Angel TV’S Esther Abankwa observed that most club administrators are fully involved in these holigan acts. He revealed that in some instances these club administrators usually task these hooligans to engage in intimidating acts that would ensure that their teams win matches at all cost.
“Sometimes behind the scenes, these club administrators tell their supporters to engage in these hooligan acts, because they cannot do it personally. Look, all club administrators know every Supporter of their clubs. They know the hooligans among them as well. So if they truly are not in support of the hooligan acts of some of these supporters, they must be able to report them to police for them to be arrested.
Any club administrator who says that he doesn’t know about these hooligans at their match venues is a liar. The club administrators resort to these hooligans as means of winning their matches at all cost,”.
Meawnhile, the Ghana football Association recently demoted Ashantigold SC and Inter Allies FC to Division Two following am Match-fixing scandal which struck the Ghana Premier League last season.
