Alhaji Akambi, a board member of Hearts of Oak, has dismissed claims that the club’s management failed to conduct proper recruitment during the off-season.
He strongly believes that every player at Hearts of Oak is capable of starting in any team in Ghana, and therefore, no one can blame the club for poor recruitment.
During an interview with Oyerepa FM following Hearts of Oak’s 5-1 defeat against Medeama SC, Alhaji Akambi reiterated his stance.
“Every player at Hearts of Oak will be a starter in any team in Ghana. Even if not all of them, about 70-80 per cent of them will be starters how can somebody tell me we had a bad recruitment? he quizzed.
Despite being disappointed with the team’s performance, he emphasized that the players have the quality to compete and that their display in the match was below par and forgettable.
“I still can’t believe it, and I couldn’t believe it yesterday (Sunday). As a board member, we have fulfilled all our responsibilities and continue to provide everything the team needs,” Alhaji Akambi expressed.
He further stated, “The players didn’t perform well. I don’t know what happened, but this is not how they usually play. To be honest with you, their performance was subpar.”
Alhaji Akambi, like any dedicated fan of Hearts of Oak, acknowledged his dissatisfaction with the team’s performance but stood firm in his belief that the club had made the necessary efforts to ensure a strong team.
He attributed the poor display to an uncharacteristic performance from the players and expressed his expectation for improved performances in the future.
