Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Dr Patrice Motsepe has congratulated Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, following their historic qualification for the final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
The Flamingos secured their place in the final after defeating Brazil 3-1 in Wednesday’s semi-final, becoming the first African nation to reach the final of the competition.
Motsepe praised the Nigerian team for making Africa and CAF proud, describing their achievement as a historic milestone for African football.
The CAF President is expected to travel to Rabat, Morocco, to watch Nigeria take on Japan in Saturday’s final, scheduled for November 7 at 6:30 p.m. local time.
Nigeria’s achievement marks a significant breakthrough for African women’s football, with the continent previously represented in the semi-finals by Ghana in 2012 and Nigeria in 2022. Both countries finished third after defeating Germany in their respective bronze-medal matches.
