Golden Kick FC have secured a spot in the semi-finals of the MTN FA Cup after edging out Karela United in a dramatic penalty shootout following a goalless draw in regulation time.
After their stunning elimination of Hearts of Oak in the previous round, the lower-division side proved that their victory was no fluke, demonstrating their quality once again.
Golden Kick FC created several scoring chances, with two clear opportunities in the first half, but Ishmael Eshun was unable to convert, leaving the scoreline goalless at halftime.
Karela United responded strongly in the second half, pressing forward in search of a breakthrough. However, Golden Kick’s defense, marshaled by captain Roland Grippman, remained resolute and thwarted every attacking move.
The Blue-Yellows continued to carve out opportunities but struggled with their finishing. In the dying moments, they nearly paid the price when Abdulai Adamu’s powerful strike rattled the crossbar, sparing them a late setback.
With the game still deadlocked after 90 minutes, the contest headed to penalties. Golden Kick FC triumphed 5-3, thanks to a series of expertly taken spot-kicks and a crucial save from goalkeeper Kelvin Kofi Saaba.
Their next challenge will be a semi-final clash against fellow first-division side Attram de Visser Academy.
