Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has claimed his immediate objective is to lead Ghana to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Ivory Coast.
The Black Stars took a step closer to securing qualification after last month’s doubleheader against Angola in Kumasi and Luanda respectively, winning one and drawing the other.
Hughton recognises the need of establishing priorities and objectives for his staff and is determined to take his side through the qualification rounds and seal their berth in the continent’s elite championship in January 2024.
“This has to be the priority to get results in these games because ultimately it is about making sure we are in Afcon in January…qualify for Afcon in January,” Hughton told SuperSport.
“This is the immediate [target], after that it is building something — what we have is we have good young players coming through and this will also give me the opportunity to look at more of the local players over a period of time.”
Hughton’s men occupy the top spot in Group E with 8 points after four games.
