Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has slammed the performance of his wingers in Kotoko’s game against Kpando Heart of Lions in the Ghana Premier League.

The Week 21 fixture of the 2025-2026 season had Kotoko lose 3-1 to Lions in Kpando bringing the Porcupine Warriors’ momentum to a halt after picking up a 3-0 win over Basake Holy Stars in the immediate past round of games.

By losing to Lions, Kotoko failed to close the gap on league leaders Medeama SC who lost 2-1 to Nations FC. Medeama lead the standings with 43 points, eight points ahead of third ranked Kotoko.

Speaking after the loss, Karim Zito was shocked his team conceded twice from set pieces after working to prevent conceding set piece goals prior to the game.

“I wasn’t expecting this [loss] because seriously, we prepared well for this game and most especially, the set pieces they scored with the two goals because we’ve been practicing on how to defend and how to attack on the set pieces.”

“When you look at our wingers, they didn’t operate the way I wanted them to do. Goals are easily scored through the wings and today my wingers did not do well” Zito said.
