Watford forward Myron Boadu has challenged his teammates to maintain their first-half intensity throughout the entire 90 minutes after the Hornets surrendered a two-goal advantage to suffer a disappointing 3-2 defeat against Norwich City in the English Championship.
The Dutch striker enjoyed an encouraging afternoon at Carrow Road, scoring his first two goals since joining Watford to give the visitors a commanding 2-0 lead at half-time.
However, Norwich staged a remarkable second-half comeback, scoring three times to snatch all three points and leave Watford frustrated despite Boadu’s impressive individual display.
Reflecting on the painful defeat, the 25-year-old expressed satisfaction with his goals but insisted that winning matches remains his priority.
“We played a very positive first half,” Boadu said. “I’m pleased to score two goals, but at the end of the day it’s a team sport, and I want to win games.
“This one hurts a lot because of how positive the first 45 minutes were.
“We need to show up on the pitch, not just for 45 minutes but for 90 minutes.”
Boadu also stressed the need for the team to quickly move on from the setback, with Watford preparing for another important Championship encounter against Lincoln City on Tuesday, November 3.
“We don’t have time to dwell on the negatives, the next game is Tuesday. We have to analyse the game and focus on Lincoln.
“It’s an important game, a home game. People are going to come and give their hard-earned money again.
“We need to show some personality,” he added.
The forward’s two goals also highlighted the growing understanding between him and Spanish attacker Iker Bravo, who provided the assist for his opening strike.
Boadu revealed that their connection on the pitch is developing naturally, with both players already establishing an understanding of how to combine in attacking positions.
“Against Charlton it was the first time we started together,” Boadu said.
“We said that whenever one of us has the ball, we need to come close to each other.
“We are two guys who love having the ball at your feet, and it becomes automatic.
“I know where he is, he knows where I am.”
The brace was particularly significant for Boadu, who had not scored since finding the net for PSV in their 2-2 draw away to Ajax in May.
With his goalscoring account now open at Watford, the striker will hope to build on the promising partnership with Bravo when the Hornets welcome Lincoln City to Vicarage Road.
Watford will be under pressure to respond positively and demonstrate the consistency Boadu believes is necessary to secure victories in the Championship.
