Asante Kotoko Chief Executive Officer Nana Yaw Amponsah has cited high-profile examples of football legend, Kylian Mbappe and Wayne Rooney to back the decision of the club to sign unknown teenage sensation Isaac Oppong from a third-tier side Bectero FC of Sunyani.
Brazil and football legend Pele , Mbappe, Rooney all made names at very young ages and the Kotoko CEO believes the quality of a player is paramount during recruitment rather than the division he competes in.
“You see there is nothing new under the Sun. Pele won the 1958 World Cup when he was 17 years. How old was Mbappe when he helped France win the World Cup. Look at Wayne Rooney at Manchester United. How old was he when he joined from Everton” Nana Yaw Amponsah said in an interview with Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM on Monday.
“It is the quality of the player that matters most and so why can’t we sign a player from the second division” the Kotoko CEO quizzed.
Oppong , who has been disturbed by injuries these days, has three league goals for Kotoko in his debut season so far.
