Black Princesses coach Yusif Basigi has called on the government to extend formal contracts to national team coaches, including himself, beyond just the Black Stars coach.
Basigi believes that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is too limited in capacity to manage contract matters effectively, and that the government should step in to provide them with stability.
In an interview with Onua FM, Basigi emphasized the hardships faced by national team coaches, saying, “When it comes to contract matters, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) cannot handle them. If they are to enter contracts with coaches, it will be a worry. It is the government that must pay attention to us because the national team belongs to the government, and the GFA is a caretaker. So, the government should turn attention to us because we are suffering.”
Basigi is set to lead the Black Princesses to the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia, where they will face Japan, New Zealand, and Austria in Group E.
The team is looking to break their streak of six consecutive failures to progress past the group stage of the Women’s World Cup.
