The NBC Tanzania Premier League seems to have become a three-horse race, with Young Africans (Yanga) Azam and Simba engaged in a fierce competition to dominate the top three. So far, Yanga is leading the league with 46 points after 17 games, with Azam taking second place with 44 points after 20 games. Simba has collected 39 points in 17 games, but they still have a chance to surpass Azam should they win their three upcoming matches.

Other teams in the top five include Coastal Union which has collected 27 points in 20 games and Tanzania Prisons, also with 27 points. Arithmetically, that gives Yanga a solid chance of winning the Premier League season, considering they’re seven points ahead of the third-placed Simba. Yanga is also standing two points ahead of Azam, with three games at hand compared to the second-placed team. That makes Yanga a great option to back when making predictions for the Tanzania Premier League season as the action continues to unfold.

The current league standing also shows that Simba has three games at hand, which puts them in a solid position to outrank Azam in the next few games and challenge Yanga for the title. However, the fourth-placed team, Coastal Union, is standing 12 points behind Simba, after playing 20 games. That means it will be hard for both Coastal Union and Tanzania Prisons to challenge the top three teams in their remaining 10 games.

The Tanzania Premier League Trend also shows that all the 16 teams are in different statuses. Some teams aim to finish the league in the top five, while some are fighting to avoid relegation. However, the race to the top three seems to be a three-horse race with Yanga, Azam, and Simba, without a lot of challenge from the other teams.

Yanga are currently the reigning champions of the Tanzania Premier League and they hope to extend their reign into the 2023/2024 season. The reigning champions won the 2022/2023 Tanzania Premier League season after crashing Dodoma 4-2 at the Chamazi’s Azam Complex.

On the other hand, some of the teams currently trying to rise above the relegation zone include Mtibwa Sugar, JKT Tanzania, and Geita Gold. Mtibwa Sugar is currently at the bottom of the table with 15 points after 19 games, while JKT Tanzania has claimed 19 points in 19 games. However, JKT Tanzania has the chance to surpass Geita Gold, currently ranking 14th with 21 points after 20 games.
