Asante Kotoko head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum has expressed his excitement about the buzz surrounding the club’s new signings ahead of their 2024/25 Ghana Premier League opener against Karela United.
The highly anticipated match is set for Sunday, September 8, at 17:00 GMT in Nalerigu.
Ogum praised the quality of the new recruits, acknowledging that the hype surrounding them is well-deserved. Kotoko underwent significant changes during the offseason, with 21 players, including Ugandan striker Steven Mukwala, departing the club. In response, Kotoko brought in 12 new players, including standout talents like Emmanuel Antwi from Accra Great Olympics.
“I think the hype is good for the players. They deserve it because of their quality and ability to play. I’m excited that they’re getting the attention, but now it’s about how they handle that hype. People will expect more from them,” Ogum stated.
Kotoko is under pressure to improve after a disappointing 2023/24 campaign, where they finished sixth in the league. Ogum emphasized the importance of helping the new signings adjust to the demands of playing for the club.
“As a technical staff, we need to engage them meaningfully so they stay confident, make the best of simple decisions on the field, and settle into the Kumasi Asante Kotoko game,” he added.
The Porcupine Warriors will be looking to start the season strong as they aim to return to their title-challenging form.
