Spanish-born Ghanaian promising talent Nico Williams has made the 60 young players shortlisted for the Golden Boy 2022 award.
The Atletico Bilbao forward made it into the final 60 candidates after it was pruned down from 100 to compete for the award given by Italian outlet Tuttosport.
The award sees to recognize the best young talents in the world under 21 years of age.
The 20-year-old had an incredible season with Bilbao making 34 appearances for the club.
Nico Williams made the shortlist together with these players in Spain, Balde, Araújo, Gavi, Pedri, Ansu Fati, Nico González (Barcelona), Camavinga, Reinier (Real Madrid), Ali Cho (Real Sociedad), Musah (Valencia), Yéremi Pino (Villarreal) and Nico himself.
The Golden Boy award is designed to recognize the best player under 21 in European football.
This prestigious award granted by the Italian newspaper Tuttosport has been considered for some years now as the Ballon d’Or for young players on the international scene.
The number of candidates will be reduced from then on each month by a total of 20 units until October 15, at which time the decision to crown the Golden Boy will fall on 40 international sports media who will decide between the 20 young soccer players who still remain on the list.
