Super Eagles of Nigeria midfielder, Alex Iwobi is still pained about his country’s inability to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Nigeria’s journey to the World Cup in Qatar was ended at the playoff stage by the Black Stars of Ghana following a 1-1 drawn game in Abuja.
Alex Iwobi didn’t feature in the World Cup playoffs against Ghana because of his red card in the 2022 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon and he regrets not being there for his country.
Reflecting on the game, Alex Iwobi said he recorded a video of himself for the playoffs which he planned of releasing it after the game but Thomas Partey’s goal in Abuja destroyed his celebration plans.
“I couldn’t even go to play against Ghana because I had a red card in AFCON. I was fuming. I was watching with my boys at home thinking like yeah we going to leak something.”
“We were watching like trying to create a documentary because we’re thinking ‘This is our opportunity…we’re gonna get there..’ Then Thomas Partey bagged that goal. So I remember in my house was just like this(silent),” he said on The Beautiful Game podcast.
