The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that the Ghana card is now mandatory for player registration in the upcoming 2023/24 football season, according to a statement.
As stated in the announcement, the Ghana card will be the sole accepted form of identification for verifying and authenticating players’ identities for renewals, transfers, and new registrations in the upcoming season.
Players who are under 15 years old are required to use a passport or digital birth certificate, while foreign players must use their passports.
“The GHANA CARD shall be used as of proof of identity for registration for renewals, transfers and new registration. For players below 15 years of age, Passport or digital birth certificate could be used. All foreign players must use their passport,” read portion of the statement.
The implementation of this policy by the Ghana FA aims to eliminate age cheating, fraudulent name changes by players, and double registration.
Meanwhile, the registration window for the 2023/24 football season commenced on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, and will close on Friday, September 1, 2023, at 11:59 pm.
The registration window is open to all registered football clubs and leagues in the country, including all Regional Football Leagues.
This registration period aligns with the GFA Regulations, which stipulate the opening of registration before the start of each football season.
