“No quota has been set for local players. Black Stars selections have always been based on merit, not on whether a player is local or abroad,” Henry Asante Twum has stated on Akoma FM.
He explained that players such as Afriyie Barnieh, Danlad Ibrahim, Richmond Lamptey, and most recently Benjamin Asare earned their call-ups purely on performance, stressing that “no one begged for them.”
According to the GFA Communications Director, the same rule applies to every Ghanaian footballer, regardless of where they play. “Wherever you are, if your performance warrants it, you will be called up,” he emphasized.
