Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Ogum has expressed his disappointment following the team’s first loss of the Ghana Premier League season, a 2-1 defeat to Legon Cities on Wednesday night.
This loss not only ended Kotoko’s unbeaten streak but also underscored ongoing struggles with scoring, as the team has managed only one goal per game throughout the season.
Reflecting on the performance, Ogum acknowledged the challenging week faced by the Porcupine Warriors, particularly concerning their second-half display. “Not the best of weeks, especially the way we played in the second half. It shouldn’t have happened, and we just have to put ourselves together and move on,” he stated.
He noted that losses to lower-ranked teams are common in football, reinforcing his confidence in the team’s resilience: “It happens all over the world. He who’s down fears no fall.”
Despite leveling the score with a goal from Albert Amoah in the 76th minute, Kotoko’s defense faltered in stoppage time, allowing Legon Cities’ Abdul Rahman to net the winner.
This defeat has intensified Kotoko’s focus on improving their finishing, a concern Ogum previously highlighted, stressing the need to convert scoring opportunities.
Currently sitting second in the league standings, Kotoko will be looking to regroup as they prepare to host Hearts of Lions on November 3, aiming to bounce back and keep their title aspirations alive.
