Sudan head Coach James Kwasi Appiah has swiftly watered down reports of his potential replacement for sacked Ghana gaffer Otto Addo, stating there is no truth in the widespread speculations.
Reports circulating in Ghana earlier this week suggested the former Black Stars boss was expected in the country on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, for a meeting with President John Dramani Mahama regarding the vacant coaching position.
However, Appiah has firmly denied those claims.
“It’s not true. I am in Saudi Arabia to monitor some Sudanese players,” he told GHANASoccernet.com.
The speculation follows the Ghana Football Association’s decision to part ways with Otto Addo on Monday, just two months before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Addo’s dismissal came on the back of consecutive international friendly defeats to Austria and Germany, prompting the search for a new head coach ahead of the global tournament.
Appiah, who led Ghana at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil during his first stint, has been mentioned among potential candidates to replace Otto Addo.
He was dismissed in 2015 but was re-appointed two years later to lead the Black Stars but a calamitous Africa Cup of Nations campaign in 2019 cost him his job.
