Oduro and Issah set for Black Stars opportunity amid Barça Atlètic playoff uncertainty

Two promising Ghanaian talents, David Oduro and Abdul Aziz Issah, are on the verge of earning a place in Ghana’s squad for an upcoming international friendly against Mexico in May. The duo, who currently ply their trade with Barça Atlètic, have been identified as part of the next wave of players being considered for the senior national team.

According to emerging reports, both players are strongly in contention for inclusion in the Ghana national football team squad. However, their availability is not yet guaranteed, as it hinges on a key factor—whether Barça Atlètic secure qualification for the promotion playoffs in Spain’s lower divisions. Should the club advance, there is a possibility that they may request the players to remain in Spain to support their campaign.

This development places both Oduro and Issah at a critical crossroads in their young careers. On one hand, a call-up to the senior national team represents a significant milestone—an opportunity to gain international exposure, integrate into the Black Stars setup, and stake a claim for future competitive matches, including World Cup qualifiers. On the other hand, remaining with Barça Atlètic during a crucial playoff push could be equally pivotal, offering them valuable match experience in a high-stakes club environment.

David Oduro, known for his defensive discipline and composure on the ball, has steadily grown into a reliable figure within the Barça Atlètic setup. His positional awareness and ability to read the game have drawn attention, making him a viable option for Ghana’s defensive unit.

Abdul Aziz Issah, meanwhile, brings flair and attacking dynamism. The young forward has impressed with his creativity, pace, and eye for goal—qualities that could add depth and versatility to Ghana’s attacking options. His inclusion would align with the national team’s ongoing effort to blend youth with experience.

The potential inclusion of both players also reflects a broader strategy by the Ghana Football Association to tap into emerging talents within elite European academies. With the global game becoming increasingly competitive, integrating players who are being developed in top-tier systems like that of FC Barcelona offers a tactical and technical advantage.

The friendly against Mexico is expected to serve as an important preparatory fixture for Ghana, providing the technical team an opportunity to assess new talents and refine tactical approaches. Mexico, known for their structured and high-intensity style of play, will present a strong test—making it an ideal platform for players like Oduro and Issah to prove their readiness at the international level.

Ultimately, the decision regarding their participation will depend on negotiations between the Ghana Football Association and Barça Atlètic, balancing national duty with club commitments. Regardless of the outcome, the mere consideration of these two young players signals a positive trajectory for Ghanaian football, highlighting the emergence of a new generation ready to carry the Black Stars forward.
